After beginning her career as a sub-editor at the New Indian Express for a period of time, she eventually relocated to the United Kingdom in the year 2010. After that, she earned a Master of Arts degree in International Journalism from Cardiff University, which is located in Wales. Following the death of J. Jayalalitha, the previous chief minister of Tamil Nadu, there have been several political shifts taking place in the state. In response to a request from more senior members of the AIADMK party, Deepa, who is J. Jayalalitha’s niece, expressed a desire to run for office in order to be of service to the Tamil people.

Nagar By-Election in the past, but it was called off. She has now put down her name once more as a candidate for the R.K. Nagar By-Election, which will take place on the 21st of December, 2017.
