Swathi Reddy began her career as an actress at the age of 17, when she was cast in the role of a presenter on the television programme Colours, which ran from 1996 to 1998. After completing the first year of her undergraduate degree, she made her acting debut in the Telugu film Danger in the supporting role the same year (2006). She appeared in her second film, which was titled Aadavari Matalaku Ardhalu Verule and was released in the year 2007. The next year, in 2008, she made her debut in Tamil with the film Subramaniapuram, directed by M. Sasikumar and starring Actor Jai. She was considered for the Filmfare Award for Best Actress in Tamil and the Vijay Award for Best Debut Actress because of her performance in this film.
