Priya has stated that if she is elected mayor, one of her primary focuses would be to address the issue of waterlogging and find a solution. She became the third woman to serve as Mayor of Chennai after winning the election for the counsellor position in ward 74 of Thiru.Vi.Ka. Nagar. Notably, she is the first woman from the Dalit caste to hold the position of mayor, and she is also the first mayor to come from North Chennai. After the hurricane Mandous made landfall, Minister Sekar Babu and Mayor Priya Rajan conducted an inspection of the fishing harbour at Kasimedu. During the after-cyclone inspection, a video showed her riding on a footboard in the Minister’s automobile quickly became popular on the internet.
