Nandini Harinath has had a lifelong fascination with the cosmos and all things scientific ever since she was a little child. Her initial encounter with scientific concepts came from watching the television series Star Trek. Nandini Harinath’s mother is an educator, while her father has a position in the engineering field. They found that they enjoyed spending time together discussing Star Trek and other science fiction topics. Because of this, Nandini decided to pursue a career in space science. Nandini has worked for ISRO for almost 20 years, during which time she has participated in more than 14 different missions.
At the ISRO Satellite Centre in Bengaluru, where she works currently, Nandini holds the position of senior scientist. Previously, she served as the deputy operations director for the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), and at the present time, she is in charge of planning and carrying out activities pertaining to science payloads in the orbit of Mars. Additionally, Nandini is contributing to the NASA-ISRO collaborative satellite project known as NISAR. The launch of NISAR by ISRO is scheduled to take place in 2020.In addition to the job that she has done, she has also been the recipient of various awards and honours, and she has produced a large number of books. In 2015, she was given the India Today Woman in Science Award for her achievements in the field.
