Her increasing interest in athletics was a direct result of her meeting the renowned athlete Carl Lewis, who served as an inspiration for her. Her beginnings in the shooting industry may be traced back to when she was a cadet in the National Cadet Corps and worked there. She is a practitioner of Judo, Karate, and an expert level of climbing, which contributes to her strong interest in NCC.She joins the Maharashtra Rifle Association at the time of her graduation, and by the time she was 21 years old, she had already started shooting within seven days of first handling a rifle.
The next year, in 1988, she competed in the National Championship and brought home a silver medal for the state of Maharashtra.
