Agatha’s early involvement in politics may be traced back to when she was a teenager. She was elected to the 14th Lok Sabha in May 2008, shortly after her father had resigned from the seat in order to become involved in the politics of the state. She was just 29 years old when she was elected to the 15th Lok Sabha, making her the youngest member of parliament in India at the time. In addition, she served as the Minister of State for Rural Development from 2009 to 2012, however she resigned from that job in October 2012, during a period when the government was being reshuffled.

In addition to being a lawyer, Agatha Sangma is an environmentalist and an amateur photographer. After that, in the year 2017, she ran as a candidate for the National People’s Party (NPP) ticket in the elections for the Meghalaya legislative assembly in 2018. She went on to win the South Tura seat by a margin of 6,499 votes later. During the elections for the 2019th Lok Shaba, Agatha ran as a candidate for the National People’s Party in the Tura seat.
