She is the renowned composer Ilaiyaraaja’s sister and the daughter of the late film producer R. D. Bhaskar. Her father passed away. She had graduated from Loyola College’s fashion design programme with a degree in the field. The film’s director, Bharathiraja, had seen her perform at several occasions and was impressed enough to offer her the chance to design the costumes for his next movie, Kangalal Kaidhu Sei. She received acclaim for designing the costumes used in each and every one of Venkat Prabhu’s films. She gave Ajith Kumar a salt and pepper appearance for the movie Mankatha, which became a topic of conversation in the community.
