After three years of rigorous training, she eventually became a weightlifting champion on an international level. When Punam Yadav was given the opportunity to compete for India at the 2014 Commonwealth Games, her parents were unable to provide the necessary financial assistance to allow her to do so. Therefore, her father decided to sell all of their buffalo in order to earn money for her.
