In the month of April 2019, Gomathi competed in the 800 metre athletic event at the 23rd Asian Champion held in Qatar. She won the gold medal with a record of 2 minutes and 7 seconds, setting the new standard for the race. at spite of the fact that she comes from a humble family of farmers, she is the first Indian woman to win the gold medal at the Asian Athletic Championship. At the 2013 Asian Championship, which was held in Pune, Gomathi competed in the 800 metre event. She finished seventh overall in the competition.
In the same competition held in Wuhan, China, in 2015, she achieved a fourth-place result. Unfortunately, Gomathi lost her father in September 2016, and then a short time after, she had pain in her groyne area. After a few months had passed, her coach passed away from a heart attack. After that, she got a job in the Income Tax department of the Government of India in Bangalore under the sports quota. After an absence of two years, she returned to the track and immediately began self-training. In 2019, she competed at the national level in a number of events and also competed at the Asian Athletic Championships.
